In this dissertation, we study nearly planar graphs, that is, graphs that are edgeless or have an edge whose deletion results in a planar graph. We show that all but finitely many graphs that are not nearly planar and do not contain one particular graph have a well-understood structure based on large Möbius ladders

The Bishop-Phelps-Bollobas theorem for operators on L-1(mu)

In this paper we show that the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobas theorem holds for L(L-1(mu), L-1(v)) for all measures and v and also holds for L(L-1(mu), L-infinity(nu)) for every arbitrary measure mu and every localizable measure nu Finally, we show that the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobas theorem holds for two classes of bounded linear operators from a real L-1(mu) into a real C(K) if mu is a finite measure and K is a compact Hausdorff space. Exploring South Korea’s Ocean Economy : the Korea National Ocean Economy Survey 2017-2019

As the economic contribution of the ocean and fisheries industry increases, it is essential to identify industrial characteristics and propose specialized strategies based on data. However, there has been a lack of research on the establishment of an industrial classification system that reflects the characteristics of the ocean and fisheries industry in South Korea. Therefore, this study aims to introduce the specialized classification system of the ocean and fisheries industry and, further intends to analyze industry trends using the survey data based on the classification system. For the past three years (2017-2019) 9,000 businesses were surveyed annually to estimate industry revenues, number of businesses and workers, annual labor costs, and business outlook. As a result, this study proposed the need for government support for the shipbuilding and offshore plant construction & repair industry which has great economic ripple effects, and the need to strengthen the labor supply chain of the fishery industries that are easily affected by external shocks

The promoter -1031(T/C) polymorphism in tumor necrosis factor-alpha associated with polycystic ovary syndrome

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>A <it>tumor necrosis factor-alpha </it>is a multifunctional pro-inflammation cytokine, which has been considered as one of pathogenic factors for various diseases. The promoter -1031(T/C) polymorphism in the <it>tumor necrosis factor-alpha </it>gene was reported that it plays a part in reproduction-related diseases. Among these, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is known to be a common gynecological disease of women in reproductive age women. Here, we performed a comparative study of -1031(T/C) polymorphism of <it>TNF-alpha </it>gene with PCOS in a Korean population.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The -1031(T/C) polymorphism of <it>TNF-alpha </it>gene was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) in a total of 217 PCOS patients and 144 matched female controls of healthy women. And statistical analysis was performed using HapAnalyzer. <it>X</it>²test and logistic regression were utilized analyze the association between two groups. A <it>p</it>-value under 0.05 was considered statistically significant.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The genotype and allelic frequencies were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE). There was strong association between the -1031(T/C) polymorphism in the promoter region of <it>TNF-alpha </it>gene and PCOS (<it>p</it>-value = 0.0003, odd ratio (OR) = 2.53). In addition, the frequency of C allele was significantly higher in PCOS patients compared with controls. Sequence analyses also showed the -1031(T/C) polymorphism of <it>TNF-alpha </it>gene.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>This is the first study on the -1031(T/C) polymorphism of <it>TNF-alpha </it>gene in PCOS. We concluded that the -1031(T/C) polymorphism of <it>TNF-alpha </it>gene is associated with PCOS in a Korean population. Therefore, it is possible that it may be considered as a clinical biomarker to diagnose for PCOS, and is helpful in understanding the etiology for the pathogenesis of PCOS.</p
